Description: Japanese Samurai armor (dou or do) mid 19th century, iron, lacquer and textile construction with Daki Gashiwa mon, comprising: spaulder, vambrace, cuirass and padding, cuisse, gauntlets and fauld, overall H40"

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from a Virginia institution to benefit the collections and conservation funds

Other Notes: According to the institution object records the Mon was identified by Josephine Hadley while at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1938-1946. It is her opinion that the Jo-Mon belongs to either of the three families: Fuji-I, Yoshida, or Tere-Jima.

Condition Report: Partial armour. Wear, flaking oxidation and losses to lacquer and metal mounts. Some replaced ties and losses to fabric backing.
