John Barr Clarke Hoyte - St. Marys Bay, Auckland c. 1869 Watercolour 31.0 x 52.0 Signed This historic watercolour shows the view from St Mary's Bay looking towards Rangitoto and North Head. The work depicts ships anchored at Princess Wharf, an area now fully developed, today home to the National Maritime Museum and Viaduct Harbour. Painting completed circa 1869 when Hoyte was exhibiting at Upton & Co. Booksellers, Auckland Central and during his time as drawing master at Auckland Grammar School. Hoyte lived in Scarborough Terrace, Parnell, a small street parallel to Parnell Road directly behind International Art Centre.
