Description: signed and dated l.r.: John Brett 1890 (incised)

Notes: Brett's studio log contains the following entry for 29 Jan 1890: "I have undertaken a commission from George Nelson Haden Esq of Homefield House, Trowbridge to paint a picture measuring 30 by 15 inches in the course of next spring. The subject to be sketch no 16 (Harlyn Sands) of the 1889 series, but in clearer weather. The price to be £100, to set against his bill for the heating of Daisyfield." The view is from Harlyn Bay near Trevose Head in Cornwall, looking north-east towards Gunver Head.
