x 20" oil on canvas, signed lower right, signed and titled verso on stretcher, appears to be in original frame.Provenance: Private Collection, Essex, CT.Swedish born Carlson came to the United States with his family at the age of 10, settling in Buffalo. He attended Albright Art School and was awarded a scholarship to the New York Art Students League in 190 where he studied under Birge Harrison.In 1922 he founded his own art school in Woodstock, NY and soon completed " Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting" which became a standard text. He was a member of many art organizations and his work is held by the Corcoran, the NY Metropolitan, NAD, and the Carnegie Institute. Vose Galleries handled the artist's estate.
