CATALOGUE NOTE
Norton was a chestnut colt foaled in 1811 by Hyacinthus out of a mare by Abba Thulle. On 14th May 1841 he walked over the course at York when his rival was withdrawn from a match. His only other race as a three year old was in the St Leger, when he finished unplaced behind Filho da Puta at long odds. At the age of four he was third of six in the Gold Cup at Catterick. Norton then ran twice in one day at Middleham on 4th April 1815, where he was unplaced in the Craven Stakes and third to the great Dr Syntax in the Gold Cup. This was Norton's last race. He then went to stud at Melton Mowbray where be became the sire of high class hunters, some of which won races in the shires up until 1830.
