Niemals wieder! (Never Again!) Gelatin silver print. circa 1960. 36 5/8 x 26 3/4 in. Framed. LITERATURE As "The Meaning of Geneva" version, see "AIZ" 11, Number 48, November 27, 1932, p. 1137 (cover); "Kent," pp. 104-105 and "John Heartfield," pp. 182-183. For the version offered here see: "Leben und Werk," p. 235; "John Heartfield," p. 255 and "John Heartfield Photomontages," p. 21. The image of the dove of peace on a bayonet had been used originally for a photomontage titled "The Meaning of Geneva" reproduced in a 1932 issue of "AIZ". Heartfield later revised it for a poster in 1960 as it is offered here. In 1967 a third version with additional text appeared. It read "Peoples, may your children/All be saved from war./Preventing war/Shall be your triumph." Wieland Herzfelde.
