John P. Cowan (American/Tennessee, 1920-2008) "Beyond the Cover", 1973, watercolor, signed lower left "Cowan", sight 17-1/2" x 23-3/4", together with a framed letter dated April 17, 1973, from the artist to Mr. Gueymard discussing the commission of the current work. Glazed, matted and framed. Provenance: The estate of A. G. Gueymard, Houston, Texas. Note: A passionate hunter and fisherman, John P. Cowan studied art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where Norman Rockwell was one of his instructors. His beautifully painted and realistic watercolors are recognized by his collectors as authentic and accurate depictions. Cowan's works have appeared in such magazines as "Fortune", "Life", "Esquire", "Outdoor Life", "Sports Afield"and in the book "John P. Cowan: A Texas Treasure", by Ray Sasser."
