Portrait of Johan van Nispen (1700-1776), half-length in a black coat, grey vest, lace collar and wig, his left hand resting on a book; and Portrait of Petronella Susanna Cabeljau (1702-1768), half length in a blue velvet dress with white-lined red wrap, lace chemise and lace cuffs both inscribed and dated 'Joseph Eichler ad Vivum Pinxit./Haga..Anno 1750.' (on the reverses, lower right) oil on canvas 85.3 x 67.1 cm. a pair (2) LITERATURE E.W. Moes, Iconographia Batava, II, 1905, p. 143, no. 5499 (Johan van Nispen). NOTES The sitters married in 1727; he was the son of Johan van Nispen and Maria van Nispen, n‚e van der Gracht, she was the daughter of Samuel Cabeljau and Anna Cabeljau, n‚e Ruyll. The grandaughter of the sitters, Johanna van Nispen (1771-1854) married Lodewijk van Toulon (1767-1840) in 1791 (for his parents see lot 46). Their son, Lodewijk Johan (1822-1901), called himself van Toulon van der Koog.
