Description: JOSEPH LANG, LONDON
A RARE CASED PAIR OF 11-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED PIGEON-GUNS, serial no''s. 1627 & 8,
for between 1853-58, with re-browned 32in. damascus barrels, the top ribs signed ''JOSEPH LANG, 22 COCKSPUR STREET, HAYMARKET LONDON'', small bead fore-sights, engraved bands to the breech-ends, platinum vented plugs, fully engraved top-tangs with sunken sighting grooves, fully border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed in a crescent surrounded by an entwined scroll border ''JOSEPH LANG'', en-suite dolphin headed slab-sided hammers, chequered walnut half-stocks with border and scroll engraved iron furniture, the heel-plates with long top-spurs and numbered centrally to the rear ''1'' & ''2'' respectively, no provision for ramrods, both guns expertly re-finished with brushed bright ironwork; COMPLETE WITH their probable original two tier oak storage case expertly re-lined and compartmented in green baize, the original parchment trade-label fitted to inside of lid and containing a shot-flask, powder flask, nipple key and a pair of nipple cleaners, all period but probably unassociated

Other Notes: According to Nigel Brown''s book ''The London Gunmakers'', complete records of serial numbers for Joseph Lang guns began in 1858 at serial no. 2085. Certain earlier guns were subsequently noted in the records when they were returned for service or other reasons but undated. These pigeon guns are noted, and with the Cockspur Street address on the rib it allows us to assign them a date of manufacture within a five year period
