Description: Judaism.- Seder ha-Avodah le-Shabatoth ha-Shanah u-Mo'adei Mikra'ei Kodesh ke-Minhag Kahal Bayith Chadash asher be-Hamburg [Hebrew]/ Ordnung der öffentlichen Andacht für die Sabbath und festtage des ganzen Jahres, nach dem Gebrauche des Neuen Tempel Vereins in Hamburg, first edition in Hebrew, text in Hebrew and German, occasional spotting, contemporary boards, chipped and worn, 8vo, Hamburg, S.I. Fränkel und M.I. Bresselau, 1819. ⁂ Reform Judaism began in Germany and Central Europe from around the turn of the 18th century. The first Reform Synagogue was inaugurated in Hamburg in 1819, for which this book was published. Here, for the first time, changes were introduced to the Hebrew prayers. This was met with an almost inevitable backlash from a large swathe of the rabbinical leadership.
