Lefebvre was a student of Leon Coginet before he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1852. He debuted at the Salon in 1855, and won the presitigious Prix de Rome in 1861. He is best known for his mythological nudes and genre portraits, and the present lot is an unusual and charming aspect of his oeuvre.
