I b, Düsseldorf 1982, p. 717 (with fullpage illustration in colors) Karl Otto Götz's theoretical process of finding an image is backed up with sketches and gouaches, sometimes the process can take up to several months or even years. The actual act of painting is quickly executed within a few minutes thanks to the special technique the artist developed in the 1950s. It made for a decisive turn in the artistic creation of Götz. In the squeegee technique, which requires three steps, the dark paint is first of all applied to the light ground, then the wet paint is removed from the canvas by means of a squeegee. In a last step the transitions between the dark and light areas are worked over with a dry brush. This makes for the characteristically rhythmic line arrangements which call reminiscence of Asian characters. [SM].
