Description: KENNETH SHOESMITH (1890-1939) EASTBOURNE / SOUTHERN RAILWAY. 1938.
39 3/4x24 3/4 inches, 101x63 cm. McCorquodale & Co., Ltd., London.
Condition B+: replaced loses in lower left corner; repaired tears in margins, some affecting image; restoration in upper right margin. Faded.
This is one of at least two posters Shoesmith designed for Eastbourne, the seaside resort on England's south coast, seen here including the bandstand (built in 1935) and in the distance the Wish Tower, a relic of the Napoleonic wars. Shoesmith applied the same attention to detail in his cityscapes as he did in his ship portraits.
