Description: Kent, Downe.- Gift and confirmation with warranty by Alice daughter and heir of Richard Lusengde of the parish of "la doune" [Downe] to John Aleyn and Mabel his wife, of her cottage with the appurtenances which contains 27 feet in length and 18 feet in width, except for her chamber with one bay of building which she wishes to retain for her own use which contains in length 14 feet, to have and to hold of the chief lord of the fee by the said John Aleyn, for which grant John and Mabel have given 7 shillings sterling in gersuma, witnesses: Henry de Upsteye, Henry Waukelin, Thomas de Luckestechele and others, manuscript in Latin, on vellum, 18 lines, endorsed "doune" on verso in a contemporary hand, some staining with loss of a few words on four lines, a few small wormholes, otherwise legible, slightly creased, browned, lacks seal, 127 x 220mm., 1313/4. ***Downe, formerly in Kent; later the home of Charles Darwin..
