Description: KERTÉSZ, ANDRÉ (1894-1985)
Prague. Silver print, 2x1 1/2 inches (5.1x3.8 cm.), with Kertész's signature and date, in pencil, on verso. 1919

Notes: From the Estate of Allen Oxenburg. Oxenburg co-founded the American Opera Society in New York, which gave American premiers to several important operas and singers. The first performance was given in a Fifth Avenue mansion, but the highly influential institution eventually found a home at Carnegie Hall. After its disbanding, Oxenburg went on to work as a photographer dealer and avid collector.
André Kertész Photographe, 32 (where it is dated 1917).
