Description: Miniature painting with colors and gold on paper. Northern India, Kashmir, around mid 19th cent.

In the center of this very finely executed "mythopoetic" painting, the Eighth Incarnation of the high god Vishnu, Krishna is standing with crown on the head, in one hand his flute venu. Beside him is his royally dressed lover Radha. Surrounding the couple are several little painted figures, as well as white cattle, all in worshipping posture. Abundant, precise floral edge, on the other side is a colorful composition with many blossoms in a little vase. This miniature originates from the scripture of Bhagavadgita with illustration of the ten Avatara Vishnus
