Description:
Title: Bedouin Tribes of the Euphrates
Author: Anne Blunt, 15th Baroness Wentworth - Anne Isabella Noel Blunt, 15th Baroness Wentworth (née King-Noel; 22 September 1837 – 15 December 1917), known for most of her life as Lady Anne Blunt, was co-founder, with her husband the poet Wilfrid Scawen Blunt, of the Crabbet Arabian Stud. The two married on 8 June 1869. From the late 1870s, Wilfrid and Lady Anne traveled extensively in Arabia and the Middle East, buying Arabian horses from Bedouin tribesmen and the Egyptian Ali Pasha Sherif. Among the great and influential horses they took to England were Azrek, Dajania, Queen of Sheba, Rodania and the famous Ali Pasha Sherif stallion Mesaoud. To this day, the vast majority of purebred Arabian horses trace their lineage to at least one Crabbet ancestor. [Courtesy Wikipedia]
Editor: Wilfred Scawen Blunt - Wilfrid Scawen Blunt (17 August 1840 – 10 September 1922) (sometimes spelled "Wilfred") was an English poet and writer. He and his wife, Lady Anne Blunt traveled in the Middle East and were instrumental in preserving the Arabian horse bloodlines through their farm, the Crabbet Arabian Stud. He was best known for his poetry, which was published in a collected edition in 1914, but also wrote a number of political essays and polemics. Blunt is also known for his views against imperialism, viewed as relatively enlightened for his time. [Courtesy Wikipedia]

Book Details: The author's husband, Wilfred Scawen Blunt, Arab scholar, horse breeder and poet, wrote the preface. The author, granddaughter of Lord Byron, lived like a Bedouin, for the most part in Arab dress, and rode some two thousand miles to the Persian Gulf without guides or the usual caravan, becoming accepted by the Bedouin, and was thus able to see and learn more than most previous travelers. Robinson 6: "Blunt was one of the coolest and most level headed of all lady travelers. . . a classic travel account."
Condition / Notes: This is the scarce first edition of this work. The antique volume is bound in the publisher's blue-green cloth covers with a stamped gilt horseback-riding illustration on the front cover and stamped gilt lettering on the spine. There is light to moderate rubbing at the edges. The front hinge is cracked. The text block is solid. The book has dark blue endpapers. The tissue-guarded frontispiece depicts the plain of Melakh. The pages show mild to moderate age toning and occasional marginal foxing/moisture marking. The work is profusely illustrated with a color fold-out map, a fold-out chart of horse breeds, and twelve tissue-guarded plates.
