Description: Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
c. 1824 Marquis de Lafayette Reverse Painting on Glass
c. 1824 Marquis de Lafayette's Triumphant Return Tour of America Period, Hand-Painted Portrait of Lafayette, Reverse Painting on Glass, Hardwood Framed, Choice Very Fine.
This impressive, early Hand-painted "Lafayette" titled Portrait measures about 4.5" x 7.25" (by sight) being housed in a simple period wooden frame 6.5" x 9.25". The highly colorful and bold portrait of Lafayette with vibrant blue, red and gold details shows the General, whose full name and title was Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert de Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. This example is strong with smooth brushstrokes and subtle, delicate execution. A great decorative piece, some minor paint loss is noted around Lafayette's collar and in the bottom corners. Its original period frame adds to the historical charm of this vibrant piece.
