More About this Item

Description: 6 December 1852 ST.GALLEN. 1 Share of £20 (£2 paid). black. No 7106. Text in English and French. Printed in London by Waterlow, and must be one of the earliest Waterlow printings. Rorschach is the main Swiss port on the Bodensee (Lake Constance), and the line was to link it with the largest city of the region, St. Gallenand later to Zürich and Basel. This was the first federal Swiss concession granted. The company did not have sufficient resources to build the line, and in 1857 was amalgamated with the Schweizerische Südostbahn and the Glattalbahn to form the Vereinigte Schweizerbahnen A.G.
