Author: Laurence Waddell - Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Austine Waddell was a British explorer, Professor of Tibetan, Professor of Chemistry and Pathology, British army surgeon, collector in Tibet, philologist, amateur archeologist, Doctor of Laws, and author. Waddell was also a philologist and linguist, having studied Sumerian and Sanskrit he made various translations of seals and other inscriptions. His recognition as a Sumerologist gained no recognition and his works on the history of civilization have caused controversy.

Professor Dale Maurice Riepe (1918-2005), from whose library this book came, was a major American philosopher and scholar, and was the Professor of Philosophy at the University of Buffalo from 1963 to 1986. His main area of expertise was Eastern Philosopy, and he traveled extensively.
Condition / Notes: This antique volume is bound in full tan cloth, with spine displaying gilt-lettering against red background. Pictorial designs in red appear on both spine and front cover. Book shows external wear, with rubbing and light soiling to covers and minor chipping to spine label. The hinges are cracked. Endpapers display toning. Bookseller's label can be seen on rear pastedown. This book is from the library of Dale Riepe, with his ownership inscription to front flyleaf. This work is illustrated with 86 pages of photographs, including a color frontispiece, six maps, including three fold-out maps, one chart and one floor plan. The interior is clean and bright.
