Description: Artist: PAUL BALLURIAU (1860-1917) Size: 37 3/4 x 51 in./95.7 x 129.5 cm G. Bataille, Paris Similar to the Palais de Glace, Le Pôle Nord was fashionable public skating rink, complete with a forty-piece orchestra. While many artists created images for the venue, Balluriau's design is the most painterly, with the crowd dappled in sunset hues dancing off atmospheric glaciers. (sports, ski )
