Gertrude Duby was a Swiss born journalist, anthropologist, activist and explorer who settled in San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico in 1951 with her husband, archeologist Frans Blom. Dedicated to a fellow European woman artist settled in Mexico, the present picture depicts the ravages loggers, immigrant settlers and national laws took upon the natural rainforests and animals of La Selva Laconda, a cause that the artist and activist cared for deeply.
