Countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. 19x15 1/2 inches; all edges folded behind document, extreme edges with remnants of prior mounting, loss to each corner, minor fading to text but signature bold, docketing at upper left recto, minor scattered soiling, paper seal intact. Washington, 3 March 1864

Notes: with--Andrew Johnson. Partly-printed vellum document, bearing stamped signature, appointing Lewis T. Barney Major General by brevet "for gallant and meritorious services during the War." 18 1/2x15 inches; edges folded around board. Washington, 12 June 1868.
