Description: Loie Fuller, 2 cabinet cards by Conly, Chicago. She was a pioneer modern dancer famous for her swirling dances with specially illuminated veils. She performed in the US and later in France. She was friends with many major artists and poets and influenced many more. She inspired William Butler Yeats’ line “How can we know the dancer from the dance?” In one she is shown with her leg exercise apparatus. In the other she is seated, leaning forward.
