Description: Louis XV Style Ormolu Mounted Parquetry and Marquetry Kingwood and Tulipwood Bureau Plat
Late 19th Century
Having a brass-bound leather-inset top above a frieze drawer flanked by two panel doors, each opening to view two marquetry drawers, the upper drawer inlaid with a crown, one inlaid fait l'an 1721, the other par Gaudreau, overall mounted with ormolu medals and foliage, raised on ram's head cabriole legs. Distress to leather top.

Condition Report: As noted in catalogue; lock detached from right panel door, we have it; door slightly warped, difficult to open and close; some cracks and losses to veneer of both panel door interiors; minor losses to veneer of one drawer; some minor losses to parquetry inlay; soiling to ormolu mounts.

The bureau was adapted from Antoine Gaudreau's commode-médaillier delivered in 1739 for Louis XV's Cabinet à Pans at Versailles. The work is currently housed in the Cabinet des Médailles at the Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris.
