China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 907 CE. A fine pottery cup with sancai glaze, sitting on a small unglazed foot and with a slightly rolled rim. Sancai, meaning three colors, is a glaze used from the Han period onward, in green, brown, and a cream. This cup has a tortoise-shell look from the comingling of these three colors. Size: 3.5" W x 1.95" H (8.9 cm x 5 cm)
