Description: Monogrammed 'LvH' in red brush lower right. We would like to thank Renate Liebner-Harenberg, Wiesbaden, and Annette Wagner-Wilke, Karben, for complementary information. The present painting was presumably created as an early design for one of four overdoors for the Villa Kaufmann in Dresden. They document how Ludwig von Hofmann adhered to the arcadian subject and the unity of man and untouched nature also in the late work. The private commission from businessman Paul Wilhelm Kaufmann was Hofmann's last mural painting project and concludes his three decade-long occupation with decorative-monumental mural painting.
