MACKENZIE THORPE
FRAMED OIL ON CANVAS - "A VIEW OVER SHEP WHITES"
depicting seven mallard drakes and hens flighting over marshland, measuring 32 1/2in. x 22 1/2in., signed MACKENZIE THORPE 1962.
Other Notes: Mackenzie Thorpe, known as 'Kenzie' was a true Fenman, born of Romany stock and something of a rogue. He gained a criminal record for poaching and spent time in jail as a result. To many he is considered the greatest wildfowler that ever lived not to mention his skills at calling and shooting hares, rabbits, duck and pheasant in vast numbers. This work shows Shep White's, an area of the wash where Kenzie had a houseboat from which he guided visiting wildfowlers. When he died the boat was burned according to Romany custom.
