This truly extraordinary Winchester M1873 Saddle Ring Carbine was manufactured in 1919. This final year production carbine has the standard carbine features that include a sling ring on the left side of the frame, 20-inch round barrel, full-length magazine, single barrel band, steel buttplate with sliding brass trap, block front sight and adjustable leaf rear sight and varnished walnut stock and forearm. The barrel, magazine, barrel, frame and buttplate are blued and the loading lever and hammer have a case-hardened finish. The carbine is complete with a three-piece, jointed, steel, cleaning rod in the butt trap. The frame has the third model integral dust cover guide and is fitted with a dust cover with serrated rear edges. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29.1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." between the barrel band and the rear sight. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the caliber "44 W.C.F.". The oval Winchester proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel and frame. The upper tang is factory drilled and tapped for a tang sight and is roll-stamped with the third style marking: "MODEL 1873/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG.IN U.S.PAT.OFF.". The bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is inscribed "44 CAL". The serial number, "709830B" is located on the lower tang behind the loading lever latch.
