Pagine 276; 252; 306 (ma 304). Cinque illustrazioni incise fuori testo tra cui un ritratto di Suor Virginia Layva detta la Signora di Monza in antiporta del Tomo primo. Buono stato complessivo, qualche alone alle prima carte, alcune fioriture. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle con carta marmorizzata ai piatti, titolo in oro su tassello al dorso, tagli spruzzati. Edizione non comune del romanzo manzoniano. Marianna de Leyva y Marino (1575-1650) è il vero nome della nobildonna costretta a prendere i voti, la cui vicenda ispirò Manzoni per la figura della Monaca di Monza. Parenti, 99; Vismara, 47. Three volumes in one. 16° (156x97 mm). 276; 252; 306 (but 304) pages. Five engraved illustrations out of text among which the portrait of Sister Virginia Layva also called The Madam of Monza on the frontispiece of the first volume. A fair copy, some spots on the first leaves, some foxing. Contemporary half-leather with marbled covers, gilt titles on littering piece on the spine, sprinkled edges. Uncommon edition of the Manzoni novel. Marianna de Leyva y Marino (1575-1650) is the real name of the noblewoman forced to take vows, whose story inspired Manzoni for the figure of the Nun of Monza.
