This single seat race car (Monoposto) March Formula 5000 73A is a unique vehicle. The chassis, the tank, the gearbox and the engine either new or have been newly repaired.
The March Formel 5000 was used by John Cannon in the Formula 5000-championship and corresponds to that of Niki Lauda‘s March 721 from 1972 - with large airbox above the driver’s head and the tablet-spoiler in the front, but for the 73A was used the conventional spoiler of the 72S - driven in the F1 World Championship. The monocoque is not made of clinched aluminium sheet. The Formula 5000 dates back to the US racing class Formula A. However, the Formula A could not establish itself in the US. Not until 1967 was a regular championship held, which was very sparse. American manufacturers did not have any fitting engines, so many expensive British engines had to be imported. From 1968 they finally let engines with a displacement of up to 5,000 cc in.
