Description: (MARITIME LAW) OPUSCULA VARII ARGUMENTI NUNC PRIMUM COLLECTA ATQUE IN DUOS TOMOS DISTRIBUTA
Van Bijnkershoek, Cornelis. Preface by D. Francisci Caroli Conradi. Halae [Halle], sumtibus Ern. Gottl. Crugii (Ernestus Gottlieb Crugius): 1729. Two volumes in one, octavo, contemporary vellum (lightly rubbed), front pastedown with ex libris label (Haas), Haas collection stamp on free endpaper, title page with small collection stamp. Text in Latin.
Cornelis van Bijnkershoek (1673-1743) was a leading Dutch legal theorist of the early eighteenth century, whose most important work was in the areas of international law and its young offshoot, maritime law. Included in the book offered here is Bijnkershoek's treatise on maritime law, Dominio maris dissertatio ('On the dominion of the seas'), first published in 1702, and one of the earliest and most influential works on the Law of the Sea.
