Small 8vo. with hardboard covers and brass hinged clasps. LITERATURE See: Lossing, Mathew Brady's Illustrated History of the Civil War, pgs. 220, 356; Horan, Mathew Brady: Historian with a Camera, plate 190, for the same sitting, different pose. NOTES The views include Gun, Centreville ; Mathews (sic) House. used by both union and Confederate armies during the Bull run Battle. ; and Stone Church: Centreville. Occupied as a Hospital after the Battle of Blackburns Ford. 18th July 1861. The sitters include General U.S. Grant; Mrs. U.S. Grant; Generals Hooker, Hancock, Sherman, McPherson, Warren, Mead, and Baldy Smith. Other sitters are Admiral Farragut; Secretary and Mrs. Stanton; Secretary Chase, Wm. Lloyd Garrison, Horace Greely, Thomas L. Kane (arctic explorer) and Peter Cooper.
