Description: Maximo and Bartola, “Aztecs of Ancient Mexico.” They were pinheads (Microcephalics) from San Salvador. [This is the disease currently caused by the Zeka virus.] There is an excellent discussion in Monsters of the Gilded Age, where Plate 31 is a cabinet card of this same image, but this is a CDV by Eisenmann.
