May 24, 1814-Dated War of 1812 Period, Manuscript Letter, Military District No. 2 (Connecticut and Rhode Island), with Integral Free Frank Postal Cover, New London, CT, Choice Very Fine.
This original May 24, 1814-Dated Manuscript Letter, measuring 9" x 14.5" (unfolded), boldly written on fine wove period paper. Letter is endorsed by a Major in the 37th Regt. Infantry to the Inspector General in New London, Connecticut. Rare rimless date stamp, "Hartford May 24" with date in Manuscript, matched "Free" handstamp, contents report on setting up a recruitment meeting. Used in Military Area No. 2, which included Connecticut and Rhode Island. Paper in excellent condition, with folds as sent. Small hole torn where original wax seal was opened. Some wax remnants of the seal remain. Overall, very choice, clean and well written.
