Description: 15th century AD. A silver-gilt strap end comprising a square plaque with four quatrefoils, split to rear and rivets, hinged second plate with tiered panels, radiating strokes, central hole, beast-head finial with mouth open to accept a thong. Cf. Egan, G. & Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories 1150-1450, London, 2002, item 713 for type without hinge. 4.26 grams, 32mm (1 1/4"). Ex Adam collection, Ontario, Canada; acquired in Canada 2004-2006.
