Description: 14th century AD. A round-section gold hoop with octagonal bezel, scooped facets and central garnet cabochon. Cf. Oman, C.C. Victoria and Albert Museum Catalogue of Rings, reprinted Ipswich, 1993, item 257. 2.45 grams, 21mm overall, 18.40mm internal diameter (approximate size British Q, USA 8 1/4, Europe 17.77, Japan 17) (3/4"). From an old Munich collection; acquired on the German art market before 2000. The stone was examined in detail by Dr. Bonewitz who observed: 'A fine quality garnet, probably Bohemian.'
