Description: 12th-14th century AD. An iron curb bit with median 'port' or arch, lateral extension at each end and curb chain, rings for attachment of the headstall and bridle; to each outer face, an undulating line of inlaid silver pellets. Cf. Clark, J. (ed.) The Medieval Horse and its Equipment, London, 2004, fig.27. 327 grams, 28cm (11"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s.
