Description: 15th-early 16th century AD. A carved bone plaque with lip to the upper and lower ends; the main panel possibly depicting the nimbate John the Baptist, in a long robe standing within an arch, inclined towards the nimbate Mary clutching the infant Jesus; possibly from a large knife handle. 16 grams, 84mm (3 1/4"). Property of a Middlesex gentleman; acquired in the early 1980s; previously with TimeLine Auctions, 14-15 March 2013, lot 1030. [No Reserve]
