1943 "Melvin H. Purvis" Signed Check Killed John Dillinger
MELVIN H. PURVIS, JR. (1903-1960). Famous FBI Agent Who Killed John Dillinger.
January 12, 1943-Dated, Partially-Printed Document Check Signed, "Melvin H. Purvis," 1 page, 8.5" x 3", Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. Being a personal check both Engrossed and Signed by Purvis, made out to "Templeton's Jewelers - Chattanooga, Tenn." in the amount of $6 for "watch repair." Drawn on the First National Bank and Trust Co., Kalamazoo, Michigan. Tiny punch cancelled "PAID +1 20 43 74-42" well away from signature which is very dark and crisp. Various endorsement stamps on verso. A wonderful example with a great looking signature.
Melvin Horace Purvis II. (October 24, 1903 - February 29, 1960) was an American law enforcement official and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent. He was given the nickname "Little Mel" because of his short stature. He is noted for leading the manhunts that tracked such outlaws as Baby Face Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd, and John Dillinger.
