Description: 6th century AD. A silver-gilt radiate-headed bow brooch comprising a D-shaped headplate with five radiating collared knops, spiral detail within a band of niello triangles, shallow bow with raised ribs and central plate with niello triangles, rhomboid footplate with four spirals and niello triangles to the border, beast-head finial, pierced lug and catch to the reverse. Cf. Heynowski, R. Bestimmungsbuch Archaeologie: Fibeln, Munich, 2012, item 3.24.3.2. 11 grams, 69mm (2 3/4"). From the private collection of a German gentleman; acquired prior to 1999.
