Description: 5th-6th century AD. A gold Menghin type 2 pyramidal 'cocked hat' pommel set with garnets to both sides forming geometric patterns of opposed semicircles to one side, and a roundel with central cross to the other; two pairs of rivet holes to the side. For a similar example see the Hög Edsten Pommel cap from Sweden. 24 grams, 41mm (1 1/2"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the late 1960s-early 1970s. Accompanied by a positive X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate.
