Featured artist Michael Dweck's photograph Sonya, Poles is the cover image of his book The End: Montauk, NY, his first major photographic project, in which he focuses on the traditional fishing community of Montauk, a Long Island village, and its surfing subculture. Of the series, Dweck states: 'It is an evocation of a real-world paradise lost: the paradise of summer, youth, and erotic possibility -- and of a community and camaraderie in a perfect setting.' (Artist statement, 2009) Dweck was born in Brooklyn, raised on Long Island and has been visiting Montauk regularly since adolescence. He attended New York's Pratt Institute and began a career in advertising before focusing on photography full time.
