Description: Artist: FRANK BERNARD DOLPH Size: 24 7/8 in. x 63.2 x 82.8 cm Frank Bernard Dolph, Artist and Publisher This 1938 tourist map of Manhattan is a revelatory guide to Gotham nightlife just before the Second World War. All the legendary hotspots are represented - from the Cotton Club, to the Kit Kat, to the Rainbow Room and the Stork Club. But the true pleasures of this piece are in the obscure details: for example, At El Chico, at 80 Grove St., "A cooling system has been installed to moderate the Spanish atmosphere. You will like it.” Comedic sketches of topless dancers, fruit sellers, and lovemaking couples abound. (New York, NYC, nightlife, maps)
