Title: He Done Her Wrong: The Great American Novel and Not a Word in It - No Music, Too
Author: Milt Gross
Publisher: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc.
Printing Year: 1930 Stated First Edition in Rare Dustjacket

Condition/Details: Bound in black cloth with bright embossed red lettering, this antique volume is a scarce work by Milt Gross (March 4, 1895 - November 29, 1953), an American comic strip and comic book writer, illustrator, and animator. He wrote his comics in a Yiddish-inflected English. He originated the non-sequitur "Banana Oil!" as a phrase deflating pomposity and posing. Also for a time his character Count Screwloose's admonition "Iggy, keep an eye on me!" became a national catch phrase. The National Cartoonist Society fund to aid indigent cartoonists and their families for many years was known as the Milt Gross Fund.

"He Done Her Wrong" is considered by many to be his masterpiece. This wordless book is composed entirely of pen-and-ink cartoons, nearly 300 pages long, and comparable to such silent films serials as "The Perils of Pauline." It also resembled (and parodied) the "silent novels" of Lynd Ward. It has been reprinted several times. (Background information courtesy of Wikipedia)

The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages that have water markings to the lower outside and bottom margins (markings do not affect images). Lower portion of text block also shows light rippling. Original dustjacket shows significant wear. This unpaginated book measures approximately 7 1/2" x 8 1/2". Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
