The Collection of Akim Tamiroff, USA
NOTE
This production was staged by Balieff's Letuchaya mysh' company in the Theatre de la Madeleine, Paris during the autumn of 1926.
Akim Tamiroff (1899-1972) was born in Baku, the son of a wealthy oil man, and studied under Stanislavsky in the Moscow Art Theatre. A talented young actor, he was chosen to tour with the company in Europe but decided to remain in Paris to work in Nikita Balieff's Chauve Souris revue when the tour came to an end. It was at this time that Tamiroff made the aquaintance of Russian emigré artists such as Sergei Sudeikin and Dobuzhinsky and began collecting Russian art.
Eventually moving to America in 1932, Tamiroff became one of the most successful Russian character actors in Hollywood.
