Munting (Abraham) - Naauwkeurige Beschryving der Aardgewassen,
3 parts in 1 vol., first edition, title in red and black with hand-coloured engraved vignette, engraved additional title by J.Baptiste Monnoyer after J. Goeree, 243 etched and engraved plates, engraved head- and tail- pieces and initials, all bar some of the initials with extensive hand-colouring, some heightened in gum arabic, occasional spotting and offsetting, several tears and repairs, mostly to margins, inner margin of half-title repaired, 18th century mottled calf, gilt, rebacked, covers bearing arms of Louis XIII, [Nissen BBI 1428; Hunt 3961], folio, Leiden & Utrecht, 1696. An attractive copy of an expanded version of Munting's less copiously illustrated Waare of ening der planten (1672). The engraved plates "are as curious as their subjects. They commonly present the plants far larger than life, oranges huge as pumpkins, cyclamens with heavy corms floating lightly in mid-air, genteel geraniums grown into giant trees. The effect is obtained through sketching in classical or idyllic or mountainous little landscapes below" - Hunt, II, p. 6.
