Everett Fahy has seen this painting firsthand and identified it as a late work by Botticini.
The pose of the Virgin supporting the body of Christ is found in two other works by Botticini, one in the Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris and another, location unknown (see L. Venturi, Francesco Botticini, Florence 1994, reproduced figures 98 and 99).
