Description: An unusual specimen of 'skeletal' chalcedony with a sugary texture and minute quartz crystals, from Bulgaria. See Bonewitz, Dr. Ronald Louis, Rocks & Minerals, 2008, p.227 - 231. 2.0 kg, 27cm (10 1/2"). Property of a Gloucestershire gentleman; inherited from his grandfather; found Rodopi Mountain region; collected 1930-1990 by the late Marin Savov of Pamporovo, Bulgaria. 'Skeletal' chalcedony is formed when silica-bearing fluids invade the open spaces within shattered limestone. The limestone is subsequently dissolved away, leaving the chalcedony. [No Reserve]
