Description: [Children/Hernandez, Nestor] 15 b/w photographs of children taken by Wash. DC photographer Nestor Hernandez. Nestor Lewis Hernandez Jr., (1961-2006) was a freelance documentary photographer, photographer-in-residence and director of youth photography programs at the Capital Children's Museum in Washington, DC. He also was chief photographer for the DC school system from 1994 to 2002. Of Afro-Cuban descent, Hernandez traveled to Africa and Cuba, capturing traditional crafters, neighborhood scenes and the "natural innocence" of children at home and abroad. His work appeared in the children's book "Master Weaver From Ghana" (1998) and is part of the permanent collection of museums in Cuba, Africa and Washington DC. ++ 15 b/w photographs of children, mostly taken in and around the neighborhoods of Washington DC in the 1990s, many labeled on verso with his imprint "Black Pearl Photography." Images include "Winners Never Quit," "Little Fireman," "Kaleido Kid" and "Leap of Faith." Some titled in gold pen, on matte or photo, most signed lower right. All corner mounted to matte boards, all about 14 x 11 in., most with light surface soiling to image or matte, most images in good condition.
